I can't be bothered with having to take care of a floor. Everyone thinks I'm nuts for going with this product instead of nice wood or fancy tiles, but I don't care. If you drop a mug or a bowl in the kitchen, chances are it will not break. It feels wonderful under your feet and not slippery. We are going to use nice padding like we did last time. It requires no waxing and is pretty much waterproof. It is easy to clean, insulating, dogs don't bother it, stain resistant, kids don't bother it, nothing bothers it. I am going with luxury vinyl sheeting throughout. I can have any floor I want as my husband is building it for us. We no longer own that home and are building our retirement home. She had been in our house dozens of times and didn't know it was vinyl. It looked like tile floor, in fact, I was surprised when in about the 10th year we owned the house, a neighbor remarked on how nice the tile was on the floor. It was virtually indestructible except for an area where I put a hot metal rack down (dummie!) and burned a little line in it. We lived in it for 25 years and that floor lasted that long. My handy husband installed good quality thick sheet vinyl in the kitchen area of the house we raised our kids in.

You'd create more outdoor living spaces to enjoy and help to give your house a sense of place, instead of just floating on a sea of grass.

This could take a bit of time, effort and money, but it doesn't have to be all done at once, and the end result could be pretty amazing. Rustic stone grounds your structure and the layering of the foliage helps to soften it and make it feel more lush. LANDSCAPING I'd put the rest of your time and effort (and money) into the landscaping, using stone, low-maintenance bushes, prairie grasses, hostas and maybe a couple of small ornamental trees to connect the different levels in your yard and to hide some of the undesirables (like utilities and even the raised base of the porch). It looks somewhat unfinished without it being painted. In the front (strictly for curb appeal) I'd beef up the columns and paint them and the porch railings your trim color. You could paint the door a contrasting color, like gray to break up the monotony of all the light color. A new structure over the door in the back gives it some architectural interest (no matter if it's a main door or not). HOUSE I'd keep the stone off of the house, as the scale and visual weight of it might overpower your charming cottage look. I think a couple of cosmetic changes to the house and some pretty hearty landscaping work would do your little cottage some good.
